Black Shoes Do Not Go With Everything!

Contrary to popular belief, black shoes do not go with everything.

You may think they go with everything, because that's what you told yourself when you handed over your credit card to pay for your 6th pair of black shoes ... even though the same style came in two alternative colours ... you justified the purchase to yourself by your good ol' mantra ... "black shoes go with everything".    When in fact what your brain was really saying was, "I'm far too frightened to wear shoes that are not black"  Am I right?  I think I'm right!

You don't need to be brave to wear a pair of shoes for goodness sake.
Bravery is when you rescue someone from a burning building, or when you apprehend an armed gunman, or sail the high seas in a dingy with only a dry biscuit and a jar of pickles.
Bravery does not, or should not be attributed to the purchasing or wearing of shoes!

Unless you work in a very conservative (yawn) office, then why not use every opportunity to show your personality through your shoes.   They're affordable and fun and are a very simple way to turn an outfit from snoozy into stunning.

This is your NEW rule of thumb - write it down people - if you are not sure what colour shoes to wear, (and colour still scares you a little), choose neutral over black every time.
Neutral shoes include, metallic, soft greys and nude ...

Unlike your black shoes, neutral shoes really do go with everything!!  That's why they are called neutral.  If you don't believe me - here's what the dictionary says:

a. Without hue; of zero chroma; achromatic
b. Matching well with many or most other colours or shades

mmm interesting ... here's what the dictionary says about black ...

a. Gloomy; pessimistic; dismal
b. The colour is at one extreme end of the scale of greys, opposite to white, absorbing all light incident upon it
c. A sign of mourning

See - your feet are in mourning people - time to cheer them up!

Here are some examples of how you can turn a snoozy outfit worn with black shoes, into a stylish one worn with neutral shoes, or into a stunning outfit with coloured shoes and accessories.

Don't get me wrong, there is a time and a place for black shoes.  Black shoes are great for when you want to make a statement, and on this occasion, you can't go past some of the on-trend chunky black shoe boots available.

Now it's time to talk to your black shoes and let them know that you may not be wearing them much in future.  It's not that you don't love them anymore, it's just you're not ready to be tied down in a black relationship right now and you want to see what other colours are out there.  Buy them some nugget as a parting gift and head out to the stores to discover your true shoe self.

FYI - now is a great time to buy shoes as many stores are offering further reductions on already reduced items.  Happy shoe shopping!

Don't forget that if you live in Victoria and need help shopping, check out my website and give me a call.
