Today, with boy in tow, I headed off to my favourite place in Melbourne ... Gertrude Street Fitzroy.
It's the first time in ages that I've had a Saturday all to myself, so I was determined to make the most of it!! Our day started with a hearty breakfast at my new favourite place, The Convent Bakery in Abbotsford. (Right next to the place where they farm children). Then we spent some glorious hours wandering, looking, trying on, and chatting along sleepy little Gertrude Street. I told the boy that he may find a groovy cover for his soon to be purchased iPad along the way. I knew we wouldn't, but it kept him interested!
Now, just because I've had a day of fun is no reason to think I have forgotten about you! There were so many tasty little nuggets along the way that some of you will just love ... here's a list! (plus there are linky things too should you want to check out each site / blog).
Meet Me at Mikes - not technically on Gertrude Street, but just a wee distance up Brunswick street is this cute little shop with some groovy pieces, from clothing to 70's casserole dishes. A must visit if you're in the area.
Circa Vintage Clothing - probably my number one favourite vintage store in Melbourne. At the moment they have the most amazing 1960's cocktail dresses, a great sale on original 50's & 60's winter coats, plus a fantastic selection of beautiful vintage gems. This is not your ordinary vintage store. Stock is well organised, well sourced and home to some rare and fancy pants pieces.
Mustache - another great vintage store and THE place to go at the moment if you want some great vintage boots, leather gloves or coats.
Leonard St - a sassy little boutique with beautiful fabrics and designs. I love love love their funky little dresses, especially the one with the pleated front. Some great stuff on sale too. I loved the batwing sweater, very stylish. Nice staff too.
Curve - an old faithful vintage store where I always find something I love, like vintage sunnies or bags and they have lots of cool boys stuff too.
Industria - my favourite store for all furniture and nikky nacky things with an industrial feel - which is my home style of choice.
And of course there is Obus - ahhh Obus, how I love thee. Fantastic clothes, fantastic accessories, Melissa shoes and nice staff, what else do you need really!
There are LOADS more great stores, cafe's and bars on Gertrude Street, so I suggest you take a little trip to groove town and have yourself all kinds of fun. xx
