Extended Hiatus

The time has come for me to make a tough decision.  As much as I love to blog, it has become a garden that I can no longer find time to tend.  So rather than close StyleFarm, I will be placing it on extended hiatus until such time as I feel I can give it (and you) the attention it deserves.

In the meantime, please feel free to trawl through past posts, as I'm sure you will find something to your liking.   Until we meet again. x

Splice of Life

I find it hard to say the word splice without the preceding word lime.
I guess it shows that ice-cream varieties are more common terms in my vernacular than fashion terms.  But since the word splice conjures up a fresh and tasty treat, I am looking forward to wearing some fresh and tasty fashion this autumn.

Splicing is graphic in nature as it takes two monochromatic colours  and carefully pieces them together in the one garment.
The most interesting splicing uses juxtaposing textures to achieve a new level of visual experience for both the wearer and the onlooker.

Will you splice and dice your way through autumn?  Here are a few items to get you inspired.

43 ways to say 'That's Sexist'

A little break from the usual fashion commentary today to highlight an issue close to my heart.
I consider myself to be a feminist.  I have always, and will always stand up for the rights of all humans to be treated equally.  No apology.
I was introduced to a website recently and this list of ways to say 'that's sexist' I found both amusing and useful, so naturally I wanted to share it.

43 ways to say 'That's Sexist'

Sometimes it can be awkward to call your friends out if they say something that makes you uncomfortable. Often they’re not being malicious, just thoughtless. But remember, your friends will only change their behavior if you speak up! Here are 43 ways of letting someone know he’s being sexist. Only you can know what’s right for your specific relationship and circumstance.

oooooooh Musk

Well today is my birthday.

Not an occasion I have been too comfortable sharing in the past.  Not because of age or anything silly like that, simply because there are usually far more important things going on than my birthday.

But today I am breaking my birthday sharing embargo.
All because of my love for MUSK LIFESAVERS.

Queen Khan

Well hello there old friends.
It's been a while since we've chatted.
I'm not going to give you the old 'I've been soooo busy' excuse because it sounds so lame and self important, so let's just skip past the fact that I've been a little distracted of late and focus on some new and emerging fashion.

Meet Dominique Khan.
The creative and talented designer of her own label Queen Khan.

Her debut unisex collection entitled The Jungle Book encompasses a range of textures and designs as colourful and vibrant as the characters from this beloved book ... and Dominique herself!

Where Have I Been?

our studio 'before'
If you've been thinking that I have silently slid off the planet lately, you're almost right!  In addition to being happily flat out styling Melbourne's fabulous women, I've been working on a little project.  A project that has been taking up all of my spare [and what used to be my blogging] time.  I've been sourcing and setting up my new studio!

After months of looking for the perfect space, we found it!  Nestled away down an inner city laneway, was the perfect sized, light filled warehouse.   The perfect space for my styling office and photography studio, plus my business partner's graphic design studio and creative hub.

Races on a Budget

Just because you're on a budget, doesn't mean you can't look great at the races.

Regardless of how much you spend on an outfit, one thing will always be true ... a little effort goes a long way.
In fact, I think this saying was penned specifically for the races!
Most likely.

Whether it's an official race meeting or a friend's BBQ, always aim to look like you got dressed on purpose.

I've put together some budget outfit examples to spur your inspiration

The Fashionista's Guide

A few months ago, I picked up a new little book entitled Fashionista's Guide to Shopping in Melbourne.

As someone who shops for a living, I was so thrilled to see my favorite boutiques and stores listed in this handy little book.

I started to mark the pages of both the stores I love and the stores I really must get back to, but realised very quickly that I was going to need a whole lot more post-it notes!
So instead, I just plopped the whole book into my handbag and now carry it with me everywhere.

A Field of Fashion

Spring Racing.
One of the few times of the year where it is impossible to be over primed, preened or presented.

My first racing event for the year is in the picturesque town of Avoca, (just a short drive from Melbourne), where I will be hosting the Fashion on the Field event.

Metal Tipped Shoes

Like most of you, I have a very healthy addiction to shoes.  Everything about shoes makes me happy.  Looking, trying, buying and wearing.

Metallic tipped and coloured tipped shoes are the latest styles to grab my attention, so I've put a collection of my favourite styles together for your viewing pleasure!

Extreme Prints

A friend of mine recently gave her 5 year old some paper, a stamp pad and a handful of stamps.  After realising the child was quieter than usual, she went to investigate and found her in the bathroom with stamps all over her face, clothes, shoes, the toilet, basin, bath and up the walls as high as she could reach.  Her white bathroom was now wall to wall print.

I like to think that this child was not being a little monster, but merely celebrating the head to toe print trend in the only way she knew how.  (Of course I didn't have anything to do with the discipline or clean up, I naturally thought this was hilarious).

3RRR Radiothon

OK, so today's post may not be about which shoes are in fashion or how to wear this season's trends, it's about a subject very close to my heart and indeed may even be more important to me than fashion (gasp) ... it's music.

I owe 3RRR an awful lot of credit for much of my music collection.  Bands and artists I would never have been exposed to if it weren't for this fully independent, non-profit community radio station that relies on passionate people like myself to keep in on the air.

Triple R are in the midst of their annual Radiothon.  A time where they ask listeners to subscribe and support this Melbourne institution.
