Smart Wardrobe = Smart Basics

I talk a lot about how to make the most of your wardrobe (my clients may even say I nag just a little)!  One of my primary snippets of advice is that 80% of your wardrobe should be made up of basic pieces.   You know, the things that you can wear year after year with no hint of the era it was produced.  Basic items are timeless, classic, and can be worn with any fashion pieces you purchase seasonally.  They are the backbone of your wardrobe and form the foundation of most outfits.

I subscribe to the theory that you don't have to spend a fortune to look great, however when it comes to basics, I suggest you buy the best quality you can afford, after all, you will have them, love them and wear them for years and years to come.

In addition to being obsessed with workable wardrobes, I love supporting local fashion, so imagine my delight when I recently met the creative director of stylish label BENTO, Samantha Hardman.

I was initially drawn to Bento as their philosophy of creating timeless pieces that are simple and stylish resonated with my own beliefs.  Sam designs wardrobe staples that go with everything, are great quality, and will be your favourite pieces for many years.

Sam is as easy and effortless to talk to as her design philosophy.  So over a nice coffee, I got to know a little more about Bento.

The Bento name comes from the idea that if you had to pack a small bag in hurry and never come back, what would you pack?  The answer is wearable, classic pieces of course.  Sam draws her design inspiration  from nature, the patterns and shapes found in vintage prints, and from her extensive travels.

I admire that all pieces are deliberately manufactured locally (within a 10km radius of the Bento studio) using only construction facilities that respect and remunerate their workers appropriately.

Here's a look at the AW11 collection.  (I am in love with the skirt and pants)!

So, where do you get your hands on some Bento action?  Try online stockists The Dreamery, or Click here for a full list of stockists.

Wat to know more?
