A brand that I had never heard of before - L'Ascari. 'SQUEEEEEEE' ... having spent nigh on 20 years in the beauty & toiletries industry, (yes I started my career at 12), I know a thing or two about scented candles and I was thrilled to have an unfamiliar brand in my hot little hands.
I immediately got down to business and gave the candle and the packaging the once over. Nice embossed box, cute little 'how to' card, lovely tissue, great label, simple and elegant glass. Great so far I thought, now for the all important burn test. Candle lit. (It usually takes poured candles 5 or 10 minutes to warm and 'throw' fragrance). Tick-tock. And there it was. The most intriguing, unusual, yet utterly delightful scent I had ever come across in a candle. Vintage Leather. Although I detected a soft floral note, the heart of the fragrance was a wonderful medley of the smokey scent of old books, antique timber furniture and of course, vintage leather. So impressed was I at the scent and quality of this candle, I decided to search out this new brand in the hopes of writing a blog post about it (and buy some more candles)! It turns out the owners of L'Ascari are a husband and wife team - Luca & Belinda. Here's the funny story bit ... Belinda is also a beauty industry veteran, and she and I, in a roundabout way, have known each other professionally for many years, although it has been quite some time since our paths crossed. What a small world!
To cut a very long story (over many cups of tea and cake) short, we caught up on all of our mutual friends and colleagues, I learned all about L'Ascari, bought a bucket load of products, and was hired to take the product and lifestyle shots of the brand! So not only do you get to learn about a fabulous new scented candle brand, you can take a look at my photography handywork!
I love people who are passionate about what they do. Luca & Belinda spent many years perfecting their candle recipe to ensure a high quality result. They hand make and hand pour their candles in small batches to ensure each candle is of the highest quality. Luca is an industrial designer and responsible for the elegant packaging design.
