Caravan Curtain Chic

It may seem that I am being incredibly disrespectful to Marni designer Consuelo Castiglioni when I refer to her Spring 2012 collection as caravan curtain chic, but I assure you, nothing could be further from the truth.

Being a huge fan of 60"s & 70's original and inspired fashion and design, I have always had a great fondness for the wallpapers and fabric of my youth.  Caravan curtains (in my case, tent curtains), are a familiar and comforting reminder of the joys of summer holidays by the beach.

Marni's Spring 2012 collection shown in Milan was a mash of fabrics, prints and childlike whimsy that I have come to love from this designer.  Marni is a label that refuses to grow up, and I like it.   I can always count on each ready to wear collection to instantly jump to the top of my favourites list.

The first few looks sent down the runway were soft coloured daisy prints.  Beautiful.
They immediately looked familiar.  Where have I seen this print before?  Of course!  This beautiful Marni print looked very similar in design to the curtains from our family tent.   What I would give to have these curtains in my hot little hands now!

I cannot go past a piece of 70's curtain in an Op shop or vintage store without stroking it fondly or adding it to my collection.  (The image to the left is a small selection of my 70's vintage fabric collection).

If you're not an OP shopper, but love vintage fabric, a great store to visit is Flashback, who specialise in vintage fabric and wallpaper.
