As long as you feel good in them, and people don't point and laugh at you, you're set! Like fashion, feeling great about yourself is far more important that what is in fashion or how much it costs.
I have a great mix of expensive and super cheap sunglasses in my collection. I often use my own items when on fashion shoots. The pair shown here were picked up from an op shop for fifty cents.
(model: Ana Kingsley)
So ... how do you choose a pair of sunglasses?
I choose glasses that I love rather than what are 'technically correct' for my face shape, however I do have 2 basic rules of thumb.
1. never choose a style that is narrower than your face.
2. proportions matter - weeny glasses will make your head look huge, similarly, huge glasses may make you look like a cartoon character. So don't go too small or too large for the proportion of your head.
If you have absolutely no idea where to begin choosing sunglasses, I suggest you think about an era or person whose sunglasses you like, look for similar shaped pairs and try them on until you find the perfect fit.
Sunglass shopping is fun. You don't have to get undressed (unless you want to), and you get to make the sunglass pouty face in the mirror. (I'm looking at you J, J & D)!
Here are some examples of styles:
70's Influence
Think oversized when you think of 70's styles. They can be quite a look, so often work best when your outfit has some spunk.
60's Influence
Perfect for zipping around town in your vintage Aston Martin ... or your Corolla.
50's Influence
I think this style looks just as great in optical glasses as well as sunglasses. Super chic.
Classic Wayfarer
What? You didn't know they went out and are now in fashion again? Classic an easy, wayfarers suit most people and are a nice simple option.
Aviators
Although I quite like the look of aviators, I don't think I could wear them without the Top Gun soundrack in my head. Like wayfarers, they are a simple and stylish option.
Incognito
For when you don't want to be recognised dhhaarling.
Quirky
If you want to make a statement, try sunglasses with a twist.
... and yes, the styles with the most examples shown are obviously my favourites hehe.
Most sunglasses can be found on-line or from sunglass retailers, however a couple of brands are local and may be a little more difficult to find. Here are the links.

Both those Prada pairs are to die for! Also crushing on Kourtney Kardashian's cat-eye glasses she has been wearing in the latest season... (sorry to mention a K word but I love them!)
ReplyDeleteYes! The Prada ones are atop of my very long wishlist. I'll have to be good so Santa brings them to me.
ReplyDeleteSunglasses with the wayfarer shape are back in fashion, that's why I always wear them. Thanks.
