Fashion is flirtatious and tempting and it is its job is to make us love it and stroke it and want it - but be strong! Nothing is so fabulous that you will die if you don't have it right away! Yes, my heart aches for those fabulous Marni heels that were never mine, but I am still breathing, sometimes sobbing, but breathing none the less and I did not die!
Before you even venture into those 'suck you in and make you want everything' stores, pick yourself up these three little essentials (for free) ...
- Confidence
- Good self esteem
- A sense of humour
With these three little nuggets in your pocket, there isn't a thing for sale as good as you, so resisting the latest little dress, skirt, top, or shoes is easy.
Now before you think I'm going a bit Dr Phil on you (is he even a real Doctor?), I see the difference everyday a little confidence and self esteem can make. Feeling confident in your own skin and knowing that you look fantastic in anything that is the right shape and colour for you, is better than any short lived retail high. As long as you don't take yourself too seriously (which is where the humour comes in), you'll have a great time resisting the latest trends!
Fashion is like a drug, you can never have enough - I mean I'm salivating even writing about it!
But the truth is, there will ALWAYS be something you want, need, crave, each time you shop. Today's 'must haves' are tomorrow's 'what was I thinking'. So contort yourself into the lotus position and practice your new shopping mantra.
If the latest designer heels will add versatility to your wardrobe and you need them, then go for it! I am not suggesting you stop shopping altogether, just consider whether the item will add value to your most important asset ... YOU!

- Dress for your skin tone.
- Dress for your body shape.
- Only buy things you need, and
- Only buy things that add versatility to you wardrobe.
