For many, this comfort zone is the time when they felt the thinest, happiest or most attractive. Sadly, far too often people hang onto their comfort zone like its a matter of life and death.
Look around you, I bet like me, you can guess the year or era when some people felt their best ..
Floral day dress - 1950's
Bouffant hairstyle - 1960's
Pleated skirt and knit - 1970's
Ponytail & leggings - 1980's
Now of course this phenomenon generally only occurs in people over 35, but the purpose of this blog is to warn all young women to beware of the fashion rut! It will creep up on you and before you know it, you're wearing the same style as you are now ... and it's 2038!
For example - someone I know (who may or may not be my Mother), spent her early adult life at the top of the fashion tree. Every photo showcased a weird and wacky hair style of the day. If it was in fashion, she had it. Shoes, bags, lurex jumpsuits, caftans, jewelery ... until one dark day in the late 80's when a butterfly somewhere across the globe innocently flapped its wings and caused a catastrophic and heinous event in downtown Melbourne. This event became known as the 'forever haircut'. No one knew at the time that the 80's little number would be with us .. forever!
*not my actual Mother
It may not be as poofy today, but this is the same haircut and I've had to look at it for more than 20 very long years. Yes, I've tried everything to convince her to get a new do, but to no avail. She has gone too far over to the dark side and can never come back.
So take it from me my little fashion sisters, check your style and your haircut every season. Even if you are happy, and don't think you need an update, for God's sake do it out of sheer fear of the forever haircut!
Know someone with a forever haircut? Send me a picture via email.
