Here's an example. Three people below are the same age, one is three years younger. Two people look great for their age and are dressed and presented in an age appropriate manner, two are, well ... trashy.
It can be a fine line between looking fashionable and looking a little mutton dressed as lamb, and in my opinion, trashy is where the age appropriate line is drawn. You can still look modern and fashionable, but as soon as you start wearing clothes that are too young for you, the result is usually trashy.
George Clooney and Jodie Foster are two great examples of how fantastic you can look in your late 40's if you accept and embrace your age. On the other hand, Dina Lohan and Dermott Brereton (the youngest in this group) look ridiculous! The younger you try and look, the older and more tragic you will appear. Personally I don't have the energy to look younger than I am. It's exhausting!
Relax. No need to reach for the Dr. Scholls just yet! Dressing age appropriately does not mean you have to be boring or fade into the background. Quite the opposite. Every fashion style and every trend can be executed to look young or mature. You just have to choose the age appropriate version. Take the current military trend for example. Both looks are fashionable. Both looks are on trend. Both looks are anything but boring.

With all this age appropriate talk, I just want to clarify that if you are young, then use your youth to play, frolic and have fun with fashion. The more you experiment now, the less likely you are to want to re-live your youth as you get older.
