Yesterday was National Swap Day, and last night I attended the Melbourne event hosted by The Clothing Exchange supported by Red Cross Australia.
National swap day is about raising awareness of the environmental impact of the fashion industry as well as providing a great opportunity to consider the environment by recycling our unworn or unwanted clothing.
This was my first time at a Clothing Exchange event, which surprises me given my love of recycled clothing and op shopping. Sadly for me, I flew out the door early with a full day of styling ahead of me and left my juicy pile of clothing to swap on the kitchen table.
With no chance to nick home to retrieve it, I had to simply observe the frenzy of clothes shoppers.
With all my spare, non bargain hunting time, I had the opportunity to chat and take sneaky peeks at what others were buying. It was a generous spirited event, with no elbows being thrown or tussling over garments. Although the shoppers were swift, they were kind and pleasant to each other, which was a fantastic change to many of the events I have attended in the past. Props to The Clothing Exchange for a very well organised event.
