30 days : 30 outfits Round-up

Even though February was a short month, it didn't seem so short for those of us participating in my
30 days : 30 outfits challenge.

The challenge was to wear 30 different outfits in 30 days.  It wasn't about having a huge wardrobe of clothes, it was about exploring the possibilities within your own wardrobe and creating new and different outfits with the items you already had.

Why?  Because sometimes we get stuck in a rut and tend to wear the same things over and over in the same combinations.  This challenge was aimed at breaking old habits, and seeing all items in your wardrobe as 'options'.

Naturally I also participated in this challenge and one thing I got out of it was that I could possibly go another 60 days without wearing the same thing.  I may have too many clothes.  Who am I kidding .. no I don't!

The main challenge I personally faced for the month was being disciplined enough to take a photograph every day.  Not an easy task when you're flying out the door early or arriving home late.

My other challenge wasn't really a challenge, more of a niggle.

I have some items in my wardrobe that I really love at the moment, and would have loved to have worn them again.  Especially a few of my summer dresses.  The weather hasn't really been hot enough since the challenge ended to re-wear any, sadly.   This little niggle was common amongst the participants I spoke to.

If I were to do this again, I'd insert a clause that allowed you to wear your favourite item at least three times during the month.

The benefits, however far out weighed the challenges.  Here are just a few:

  • Confidence!  Wearing something different everyday really did boost the self esteem.
  • Compliments.  Many challenge participants received glowing compliments from their workmates and family.
  • Organisation.  You had to be super organised for this challenge, which took the stress out of choosing what to wear each day.  Now, I realise that I am not completely normal, but I had little tags on my hangers indicating the date I would wear each piece.  Stop laughing!
  • Outfits.  We are now armed with loads of ideas for interesting outfits.
  • Washing.  Because we weren't wearing pieces over and over, it meant that there was little washing or ironing to do during the month.  Sure, I have loads to do now, but the month of Feb was like a laundry holiday!

Here's what one challenge participant had to say:
It was loads of fun and created so much interest, I had a number of people at work who would be watching to see what I wore each day. One team member commented I was in the wrong job & should become a fashion stylist!!!

It is interesting looking back on the photos, for me they reflect a more accurate reflection of what one looks like more so than just looking in the mirror each day and while I love the majority of outfits, I wouldn't put a couple of outfits together again. Also I can see more clearly the styles that compliment my shape and will be planning my wardrobe around this now.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated.
Thank you to those who posted pics regularly on the Facebook event page, and to those who kept me updated daily via email.

Here's a small selection of the outfits worn by the 30 days : 30 outfits participants.

And for those of you who like stats, here's a look at the items worn by just three of the challenge participants.

But ... it doesn't end here!  This is the perfect challenge any time you feel your personal style needs a little kick in the pants.  It doesn't have to be for 30 days, it can be for a week or two just to get you back on track.

  1. loved the idea! definitely going to try it myself, although maybe not for full 30 days- too hard :). It happenes to me many times that I wear the same outfits over and over, and it's time to try some new mixes and combinations
