The Trench coat was created for soldiers during the first world war as an alternative a large heavy overcoat. I'm not going to get into the debate of who invented the Trench Coat - a title claimed by both Aquascatum and Burberry, however as Thomas Burberry invented gabardine fabric an submitted his coat design to the war office early in the 20th century, I am not so secretly in the Burberry camp. Maybe it's because I adore the current Burberry designer Christopher Bailey oh so much!
One of my favourite things about a trench coat, is they are perfect for throwing over your 'around the house' clothes if you have to nick down to the supermarket or post office, as they provide instant fabulousness. Do you think any of these ladies have their bed t-shirts on under there??
If you love trench coats, here's a great site to inspire you ...it shows loads of images of normal people (ie not models) wearing trench coats so you can get some great ideas on how to wear yours. Burberry - the Art of the Trench
