Industrial Junkie

Fashion and home decoration are very closely related in my mind, therefore I thought we'd take a break from clothing and look at home fashion today.

I have a fondness for vintage and the dirty, junky side of industrial design.  Perhaps it is because I am usually an ordered, organised type of person, that I like furniture that is old, imperfect and a little on the raw side.

Here are some snaps from around my house that will help explain my taste in home decor.
(Notice how I assumed you were interested)?!

The bakerlight telephone in the centre picture belonged to my Grandfather and the oh-so dangerous fan has been in my family for as long as I can remember.  The red nanna chair is one of a pair that I purchased many years ago through eBay for $40.  The replica aluminium navy chairs were not cheap, but I got them on sale, and they flank my simple industrial style dining table.

I don't believe in having just one style, after all I like my house to feel like a home not a display house, that's why I find flawed pieces are so appealing.

This odd orange arch is part of a huge industrial letter O that greets you as you enter my home.  It's scratched, marked, imperfectly perfect.  And the skulls ... well I do like me a good skull, and these fake monkey skulls are actually tea-light holders. (purchased from venucci.com)

I have a huge sideboard made from two old battered and rusty school lockers that we turned on their side and added caster wheels to the bottom.  The whole thing is almost four meters long, and holds an awful lot.

Being a lover of all things vintage, I also have my fair share of 70's crockery and 50's glassware, collected over the years from OP shops, friends and family.

My niece is the only other person in my family who shares my love of industrial and vintage, and has called dibs on all my stuff!

Enough about me!   This is the very stylish home of a good friend of mine.  He is a graphic designer and has an eye for interior style and design.  Unlike my cheap as chips vintage collection, his house is filled with the proper stuff.  He has the most amazing Eames storage unit, Deisel lamps and a fabulous pair of red Kurt Olsen chairs that I secretly want to steal.
