Nina Fever

Do you have Nina fever?  You're not alone.  One of the most common questions my clients are asking me lately is about the fashion style of Nina Proudman (character from the TV show Offspring).
Not that every client wants to look like Nina, they simply love the way her outfits are put together and her effortless style.

The trick with Nina's style is that it is very understated.  No item on its own is a strong statement piece, yet the outfit together makes a statement.  All items have a softness and flow about them. The fabrics are complimentary, not clashing.   Pieces are layered simply and work well together.  Nina's outfits are very well balanced.  A lot of effort goes into looking this effortless!

I really like how the wardrobe department treats Nina's wardrobe like a real person's wardrobe. Items are re-worked and re-worn throughout each season.  Nina's clothes are not from some secret shop, hidden away somewhere and only accessible through a magic wall on a railway platform ... oops wrong show (and genre) ... but my point is that the costume department gathers clothes from stores that most of you will be familiar with, and therefore developing your own Nina inspired style is very achievable.

Here are a few outfit suggestions to mimic the style of Nina

You can also add your own twist to this style by throwing a vintage piece ot two into the mix.  If you don't have the time or inclination to rummage through your local thrift stores, then online sites like eBay or  http://www.etsy.com/ are good options.

The 70's are going to be a major influence over fashion for a little while to come, (or if you are me, the 70's is ALWAYS an influence), so now is the time to bring a little of Nina's style into your life if you wish. You may choose to dress yourself in a more obvious bohemian way by wrapping yourself in fringe or donning a nanna blanket and belting it with a vintage girl guide belt (oooh, note to self - look for a vintage girl guide belt).

Are you influenced by this style?  Let me know ... or better still, send me a pic! xx

I love love love Nina's style! After throwing, absentmindedly, together an outfit to go shopping today I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, wow, Nina would wear this. Team Patrick btw.
